The New Rector and International Cooperation
Our international experience was and has been instrumental in establishing understanding parameters of the institutional development process that URCA has faced in the last 12 years. When in 2000 we visited the island of Cuba, a group coordinated by the then Rector Violet Arraes, which included the participation of IBAMA member, the Foundation ARARIPE and Teachers URCA, we visit the major institutions of the Cuban Government and, as the Ministry Education in its version for Higher Education and Elementary Education and Secondary Education, vaccine laboratories (very modern) and Public Universities at that time already had more graduate students than undergraduate. The political process and the development of tourism also caught our attention. A revolution in our thinking of what is strategic and think ahead.
In 2002, during the Conference on Environment and Development in Jo'burg, South Africa, the occasion was to observe and monitor the geopolitics around the main themes of the millennium: the environment and sustainable human development and realize the intricacies of the negotiations and interests that separate the countries of North and South of the globe. At that time visiting Mozambique saw a country that almost all seemed to us at the beginning of the nineteenth century, a country under construction; with the aggravation of a humble population devastated by a civil war that left deep marks in the mode of being of the people.
With the Geopark Araripe visited many worlds, Greece, Japan, Canada, Spain, Portugal, Colombia, Argentina, among others, and make sure we have one of the best areas in geological heritage, paleontological, archaeological, biodiversity and the world culture and we have the best position to be a model territory for the twenty-first century, able to integrate location and socio-environmental development. The URCA has all the conditions to star the best future actions for the region of Cariri, South Centre and the Araripe Geopark.

The Vice-Rector and his experience as an exchange student
International experience in my training allowed the expansion of knowledge that go beyond the character of great cultural richness of this experience. I realized the Doctoral Internship at Universität Innsbruck, located in the Austrian city of Innsbruck, Tyrol's state capital. Before making the choice of this university, he had been considered and made contact with the University of Vancouver, Canada, and the University of Newcastle, UK locations with large researchers able to supervise me in the research agenda proposed by the Internship Project abroad. However, to have contact with the vast experience in the investigation of the spatial development and characteristics of the peripheral countries, developed by Prof. Dr. Martin Coy, Austria, realized the relevance and a great possibility. Submitted scholarship application for Doctoral Training Abroad CAPES, after having had a favorable opinion Prof. supervision Coy.
Austria was one year, linked to Arbeitsgruppe Entwicklungs-und Nachhaltigkeitsforschung - AGEF (Working Group and Research on Sustainable Development) of the Institut für Geographie, a group that performs. I remain still bound as a visiting researcher this group. The fruits of this experience are immeasurable. Besides reaffirming the taste for classical music, in which the Austrians are icons of humanity, learning with members AGEF, the exchange of experiences, knowledge sharing, contact with new literature and methodologies of the area researching as well contact with other researchers from around the world agremiados the Innsbruck group are some aspects of the legacy of this experience that I recommend to every student and researcher.
The experience was very rich in professional level, personal and cultural. In addition to improve their English, I was initiated to the German getting good results. In the survey, participated in numerous actions of the broad agenda of AGEF me aside a few visits to neighboring countries.
Life in Innsbruck in full Alps, provided new perspectives on the adaptation of man to nature which, in various forms, is inhospitable. The historical value of the Tyrol region has a strategic aspect and this is very strong in daily life that gave me benchmarks with the region in which we are inserted, the Cariri Cearense. The marks left at various stages of historical, social and economic formation are always remembered. Located in one of the few paths pass between the mountains linking southern Europe of the Roman Empire to the northernmost regions, the domain this way and consequently the city of Innsbruck was strategic. Such paths are consolidated with the coming of the east goods through the port of Venice towards the Leagues Hanseatic making the city an important commercial center about to be one of the venues of the Austro-Hungarian Habsburg in the Modern Age, sharing with Vienna this paper .
The foundation of the University of Innsbruck date of 1699, as one of the great legacies of the Habsburg house that creates between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries other major universities in Austria and Hungary, among them the University of Vienna, the University of Graz and the University of Salzburg.
